Forever in Our Hearts
On Sunday, February 26, 2023 John Morgan, age 73, passed away at his home after a courageous and hard-fought battle with kidney and heart disease.
John was born on October 24, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to John and Jean Morgan. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Mesa, Arizona. John attended public schools in Mesa, and upon graduating high school in 1968 he enlisted in the United States Army. John was stationed at Fort Stewart, Savannah, Georgia where he was assigned supply chain duties, and qualified for the precision rifle team. John was eventually transferred to The Presidio, U.S. Army Post, San Francisco, California where he studied the Vietnamese language in the Linguistics Program. John was honorably discharged in April, 1970 during the Phasedown Release Program. He was very proud of his service.
John spent his career in the electronics industry; working at Motorola, Medtronic, and United Technologies Corporation. During his working years he made many friends and brought passion for community to everyone he met.
Above all else, John loved his family and always placed them first. As a family there was barbequing, swimming, camping, hiking, traveling, fishing, boating, golfing, movie-going and music. Everyday there was laughter! John also enjoyed Volkswagens, cooking, and woodworking. In retirement, he built a small shop for his woodworking projects. He spent many hours in “the shop” creating and listening to music.
John also served as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America supporting his son from Tiger Cubs to Eagle Scout in Troop 656; he served as President of the Mesa Breakfast Optimist Club and was a member of The Elks Club.
Throughout John’s life he always maintained a positive attitude and had a good sense of humor. These attributes carried him through many medical challenges.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Morgan; mother, Jean; and brother, James. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce; son, Kyle John and daughter-in-law, Renee; his brother Joel Morgan and sister-in-law, Kay; nephew Joel Morgan and wife, Britney, great nephews Micah, Austin and Ryder; nephew Christopher Morgan and wife Ali; sister-in-law, Rita Popowich; and nephew, Jaiden Popowich.
